Kimi Raikkonen made his NASCAR debut in Charlotte this year as a previous Formula One World Champion. The media had high hopes for this racer that even Sport Illustrated dubbed his as possibly the next international superstar. Nicknamed as the “Iceman,” he finished 15th place in the Camping World Truck Series. However, Raikkonen didn’t have as much luck during the NASCAR Nationwide series. He finished in 27th place. He said in an SB Nation interview that he struggled with the heat of the car as well as handling the corners. Will this racer make a comeback in the NASCAR scene? “My plan was always to do these first two races and then I have to go back to Europe and do some Rally (races) and then we will see what happens,” he tells scenedaily.com.

Another NASCAR driver that’s breaking into the scene is 19-year-old Cole Whitt. Don’t underestimate the age of this kid, he was driving stock cars in 2010 and and won USAC’s Super License Award that same year. He then placed third in the East series opener with his No. 84 Red Bull Toyota at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway. He plans to drive for Turn One this year and will contest for Rookie of Year.

Although many people do not believe that it takes training to become a great Nascar racer, the best of the best put in countless hours on the track, and they workout as any other athlete that plays professional sports, but in their arena, which is the race track, rather than on the field, or on the court, depending on what other professional sports you wish to compare Nascar to. Just like all athletes, once you make it to the professional level, in order to compete, and to be the best, you have to be willing to put in the time, the effort, and really run the track, and put in the laps and miles, in order to be the best, and in order to be the best on race day. The temperatures that the racers are exposed to in the cars also requires them to do physical training, in order to be able to endure the heat, especially on the hottest of summer days, which can easily exceed 100 degrees, mixed along with the hot asphalt and the engines of dozens of other cars on the track. So, whether or not it is seen on TV, Nascar drivers put in the hours on the track, in order to be the best. The information doesn’t stop now.

All of the following race tracks hosted a NASCAR event, and offers training availability. They also come with accolades from current and former NASCAR racers. Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, has received several high ratings from current NASCAR racers. The Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California offers two mile, low banked super speedway. It has NASCAR racing events every year since 1997. The Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee held it’s first NASCAR race in 1961, although it has one of the shorter tracks, it still ranks as a favorite among racers due to it’s extraordinarily steep banking and two pit roads. The Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina scores very high marks as a training track. It has a 1.5 mile, Quad-Oval track. It hosts the prestigious Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day. The Chicagoland Speedway, in Joliet, Illinois another track that comes highly recommended as an excellent track to train at. It boosts a 1.5 mile tri-oval track. The Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach Florida is home to the Daytona 500. That race is arguably one of the most prestigious races in NASCAR racing. The track houses stellar multiple features, including it’s sharp 2.5 mile track.
