THE NEW FACES IN NASCAR – WHO ARE THESE RACERS?

Kimi Raikkonen made his NASCAR debut in Charlotte this year as a previous Formula One World Champion. The media had high hopes for this racer that even Sport Illustrated dubbed his as possibly the next international superstar. Nicknamed as the “Iceman,” he finished 15th place in the Camping World Truck Series. However, Raikkonen didn’t have as much luck during the NASCAR Nationwide series. He finished in 27th place. He said in an SB Nation interview that he struggled with the heat of the car as well as handling the corners. Will this racer make a comeback in the NASCAR scene? “My plan was always to do these first two races and then I have to go back to Europe and do some Rally (races) and then we will see what happens,” he tells scenedaily.com.

Another NASCAR driver that’s breaking into the scene is 19-year-old Cole Whitt. Don’t underestimate the age of this kid, he was driving stock cars in 2010 and and won USAC’s Super License Award that same year. He then placed third in the East series opener with his No. 84 Red Bull Toyota at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway. He plans to drive for Turn One this year and will contest for Rookie of Year.
